Product photos

Cabina dresses your customer starting from one photo of the garment: the one on your product page. The result depends on that photo more than on any setting in the dashboard.

Which photo Cabina reads

In this order:

  1. on Shopify, the photo assigned to the variant the customer selected;
  2. the page’s og:image, which is usually the first photo in the gallery;
  3. failing that, twitter:image and then the first image in the gallery.

The details are in The garment image.

The photo that works best

The garment on its own: laid flat, on a hanger or on an invisible mannequin, against a light, plain background.

  • The whole garment is visible, from the front.
  • One product per photo.
  • For a set sold together (top and trousers, jacket and skirt), all the pieces in the same photo.
  • No other clothes, people or furniture in the background.

In our tests, with photos like these the garment came out right on the first attempt.

If the photo is on a model

Cabina receives two photos: your customer’s and the garment’s. If the second one also shows a dressed person, the model that generates the image cannot tell which piece is for sale. The errors we have seen:

  • It copies the other pieces too. You sell a vest, and the customer also gets the skirt the model was wearing.
  • It loses half of a set. Of a shirt and trousers sold together, only the shirt is left.
  • It splits a dress. A halter-neck dress becomes a skirt with the customer’s own t-shirt.
  • It picks things up from the background. A shirt hanging behind the model ends up in the result.

Generating again does not help: with the same photo the error repeats.

A photo on a model can work when the garment is a single piece, is visible in full, the background is plain and the model is wearing nothing else that stands out.

You do not have to remove the photos on a model: Cabina just has to read the right one.

  • Shopify: assign the photo of the garment on its own to the variant. Cabina uses that one.
  • Other platforms: point og:image to the photo of the garment on its own. It is the same image that appears in link previews of the product.
  • You only have photos on a model: put first the one with the whole garment, a plain background and the fewest other pieces.

How to check

Open a product page, press the Cabina button and choose one of the models. If a piece you do not sell shows up in the result, or one is missing, the cause is the garment photo. The try-on counts towards your plan.
