Shopify virtual try-on: how to add it to your store in 5 minutes
The Cabina app is on the Shopify App Store. Here is what shoppers see, the four installation steps, where the button appears and what happens after the try-on.
What shoppers see
On the product page, next to Add to cart, a “Try it on” button appears. Shoppers who press it upload a photo from their phone or computer — or pick one of the preset models, without uploading anything — and within seconds see the garment on themselves. It is not a cut-out pasted on top: it is a new image, generated from their photo, in which the garment actually falls on the body.
Shoppers install nothing and sign up nowhere. The photo is sent only after explicit consent, it is used to generate the try-on and it is not kept: the resulting image is reachable through a temporary link and deleted after 30 days. No body measurement ends up in a database — neither ours nor yours.
Installing the app: four steps
- Install Cabina from the Shopify App Store and authorise your store.
- In the theme editor, turn on the “Cabina” app embed and save. Shopify app embeds start switched off: while it stays off the store counts as installed, but shoppers see nothing. It is the step most often forgotten.
- The API key is configured automatically: there is nothing to copy and nothing to paste.
- From the Catalog in the dashboard, choose which products can be tried on, garment by garment. The ones you do not choose stay exactly as they are today.
The real time goes into the second step: opening the theme editor, finding the entry among the app embeds and flipping the switch. The app does everything else.
Where the button appears
On Online Store 2.0 themes the button is a theme block: you turn it on from the editor and place it wherever you want on the product page, like any other block. It is not a script glued onto the page.
On older themes you use the universal snippet, a single script tag pasted into the theme: Cabina finds the purchase block by itself and puts the button next to it. If it ended up in the wrong place, an element with the data-cabina-target attribute tells it exactly where to go. The details are in the documentation.
What happens after the try-on
That is the moment people buy, which is why the try-on result contains the Add to cart button. It does not call a separate API: it presses the button already on your product page, so the size and variant the shopper had chosen stay the same, and your theme’s cart opens as it always does.
If you have uploaded size charts, Cabina compares the measurements estimated from the photo — which the shopper can correct by hand — with the garment’s chart and recommends a size. Fewer doubts before the order, fewer returns after it.
What it costs
The Freemium plan is free and includes 10 try-ons a month: enough to see the result on your own garments. Starter costs $40 a month for 200 try-ons, and one try-on is one garment tried. The subscription goes through Shopify billing together with the rest of your store: no second payment method to register. The full price list is on the pricing page.
Before you start: the product photo
The garment shoppers see on themselves is the one in your product photo: Shopify exposes it on every product page and Cabina reads it from there, with nothing for you to do. But the quality of the result depends on that photo. What makes it suitable — and what ruins it — is in The right product photo for AI try-on.
The widget speaks five languages (Italian, English, French, Spanish and German) and takes the colour, logo and button text from your brand. The Cabina for Shopify page collects the most frequent questions.
